Stone Creek Project Reveal: Making a New Construction Home Feel Like Home

When our clients relocated to Tulsa and purchased a newly built home in Jenks by Cozart Custom Homes, they loved the home’s layout and quality craftsmanship.

Like many new construction homes, the foundation was beautiful, but the interiors needed intentional details to make their new house feel like home. The bright white walls, white cabinetry, and builder-selected finishes created a clean backdrop, but the spaces were missing color, texture, and personality.

This is where thoughtful interior design can completely transform a new build.

How to Make a New Construction Home Feel Like Home

Many homeowners assume that a newly built home does not need interior design. In reality, even a custom home or new construction home can feel unfinished without the right design direction.

After moving into a new build, many homeowners find themselves asking:

“How do we make this home feel like ours?”

The answer often comes through intentional updates. For this project, our goal wasn’t to renovate the house. It was to personalize it.

One of the benefits of working with an interior designer after building a home is the ability to take builder-selected finishes and customize them to better reflect your style.

Through strategic paint selections, updated lighting, elevated hardware, and custom design details, we transformed this new construction home into a timeless, livable space that feels inviting and uniquely theirs.

 

Entryway

The foyer became the first opportunity to introduce personality into the home.

In the entryway, a custom alcove added architectural interest, but the original white paint caused it to blend into the surrounding walls and limited its impact. By painting it a rich chocolate brown, we created depth and dimension, transforming it into a thoughtful design feature that makes an immediate impression

We also replaced the undersized builder-grade entryway light fixture with a statement piece scaled appropriately for the space. Suddenly, architectural details that once went unnoticed became eye-catching features.

Living Room

The living room had beautiful bones, but the original all-white palette left the space feeling a little unfinished.

We selected a dark paint color on the main wall to create contrast and anchor the room. The floating shelves on either side of the fireplace were refinished from white to look like natural wood, adding warmth to the heart of the home.

Updated hardware added another layer of customization, allowing the freshly painted built-ins to feel more like intentional furniture pieces rather than standard cabinetry.

Ceiling Treatment

Throughout the foyer and main living areas, the home featured beautiful oversized custom ceiling treatments, but the original white paint caused them to blend into the ceiling.

We selected Sherwin-Williams Warm Stone, a deep gray with earthy undertones, to bring more depth to the space. The new paint color transformed the ceiling treatments into a true design feature, creating a more luxurious feel in the home.

Kitchen

The kitchen became one of the most impactful updates in this Tulsa new construction home.

Rather than completely renovating the space, we focused on thoughtful kitchen updates that would add a more custom feel. The original all-white kitchen cabinetry was transformed with a rich brown-black paint color, creating a timeless and sophisticated foundation.

Primary Bathroom

The primary bathroom originally featured a strong black-and-white palette.

Through updated mirrors, fresh lighting, new hardware, and a darker color for the cabientry, we created more balance and visual interest while allowing the existing marble surfaces to shine.
