I’m sure you’ve felt it. The feeling of being overwhelmed by all your stuff. You’re not alone. Fortunately, there are tons of ways to create extra storage space in your home. Here are 8 ideas to get you started. Happy organizing!
Display Dinnerware On Open Shelving
Rather than reserving this spot of the kitchen for decorative items, we recommended our clients keep their pretty, everyday bowls and plates out in the open. It’s a very clean, minimalistic way to make the most of your available storage space and show off your favorite dishes at the same time!
Opt For Dual Purpose Accessories
When it comes to interior design, there’s no need to sacrifice style for functionality. You can easily find dual purpose accessories that will help you save space and make your home look great. This mirror is a statement piece that also doubles as storage for jewelry.
Pair Practical with Pretty
We want our home office to look as beautiful as the rest of the house but function well too. This can be accomplished with built-in storage, which helps hide unsightly cords, office supplies and electronic devices such as printers and shredders.
Make Every Square Foot Count
Many staircases have untapped storage space underneath. This is a perfect place to build in some shelves. Here it made sense to add wine storage below the spiral staircase going down to the game room & home theater.
Think Outside the Cabinet
Most sink base cabinets do not include drawers because they interfere with the plumbing. But in this case, we designed the drawer low and wide, clearing all the plumbing and giving our clients functional storage in both the cabinets and drawers.
Incorporate a Tub Ledge
Do you have a nice bathtub but nowhere to put your glass of wine? If so, a tub ledge is the perfect solution. The ledge provides a place to mount your faucet and hold all your your bath time necessities.
Install Custom Shelving
This is one of the best ways to add extra storage to your pantry. There are many different types of shelves to choose from, here we used the Elfa closet system. It’s great to be able to see what you have and find things when you need them.
Use Baskets and Containers in Your Decor
Baskets and containers are a great way to add some style, color, and organization to your home. They can be used in many ways; on the floor for storage of loose items, as an accent piece on a table or bookshelf for displaying small items, or most common of all, in the kitchen and pantry. When we remodeled this home, we converted the bar to a snack station and incorporated all of the family’s favorite goodies into the decor.
Your home should be your happy place. But if it’s not functioning well as it could be, it can be frustrating. We hear what people call us for and then look for creative ways to address their design issues, which we do by casting a different vision on the face of what they’ve always only seen as problems.
